Less stuff, More sparkle

Christmas is such a special time of year! Between my two part-time jobs—managing a local community centre and working as a Duty Manager at a theatre, wife and mum of two teenage boys —I’m diving into a season filled with events, parties, family gatherings, festive lunches, church services, and spreading messages of love and cheer.

End Clutter

For me, Christmas is all about joy and connection, not “stuff.” This year feels especially poignant as it’s our last Christmas with my terminally ill dad. That’s why we’ve chosen to gift experiences instead of things—precious moments together that we’ll treasure forever. Think afternoon teas, cozy pub pints, theatre trips, spa days, and more. Each gift is time spent together, which truly feels like the best gift of all.

Travel Fresh

Our family tradition? A New Year’s Eve party! The guest list has one fun rule: everyone must live within walking distance. After an evening of festive cheer, a starry walk home feels magical—and keeps things eco-friendly.

Eat Green

I’m also embracing a greener approach this Christmas. While I’m a meat eater, I’ve loved trying vegetarian and vegan dishes this season—it’s been an adventure for my taste buds, and I’m rarely disappointed!

Dress Retro

Another passion of mine? Fashion! I exclusively shop secondhand, and this year, I scored a show-stopping red designer dress for Christmas and New Year’s Eve at a Leeds charity shop. At just £34.50, it was a bargain compared to its original price of £250. I feel great knowing my purchase supported Cancer Research while keeping my style fabulous and sustainable.

Holiday Local

For a festive getaway, we’re heading to the east coast in our electric car for some much-needed sea air. With long walks, deep talks, and cobweb-clearing breezes, it’s a perfect local holiday—and thanks to a £50 Premier Inn deal, our bank balance is happy too!

Change the System

Finally, I’m putting my passion for climate action into practice. As an Ambassador for Take the Jump, I’m planning to connect with my Council’s Climate Change team in the new year. I’ll be offering my support to promote sustainable living through upbeat messaging and events.

This Christmas, I’m celebrating love, connection, and meaningful action. Here’s to joyful moments, green choices, and a season filled with cheer! 🌟
