FESTIVAL FUN TIME!
Over the two years since we launched, Take the Jump was had a a load of fun inviting shifts in behaviour, mindsets and cultures at festivals. We’ve been the official sustainability partner of Shambala Festival and done vibrant immersive theatre, talks, workshops for adults and young people, and participatory adventures at Glastonbury Festival, Into the Wild, Bestival, Shambala, and Tour de Moon.
“Take the Jump embodies everything we individually need to be, see and do in the world right now. It's the perfect fit for ongoing, everyday activism with our audiences. We had a riotous time with them on site at Shambala. So fun, engaging, simple and encouraging! We can't wait to grow this flow with our audiences, to help change the world for the better!”
Josephina Bodimeade - Shambala Festival, Sustainability Officer
Plans and partnerships for 2025 will take things up several notches :) If you know a festival you think we should be present at in 2025, drop us a message at: team@takethejump.org. There’s two things we do:
Festival weekend - Driving joyous behaviour change
WHAT: Offering customers the inspiration to make their being at the festival a ‘jump off’ point for a world of less stuff more joy. We offer festivals a way to include robust science based climate action into their program, but in a way that uplifts and empowers customers. Adding to their festival experience rather than being a drag. Providing a way for festivals to incorporate 'eco' and show leadership, and reach beyond the usual suspects, without killing the buzz.
WHY: Huge impact of shifting people's behaviour for years to come, and shifting cultures across society, making system change far more likely.
HOW: Collaboration linking festival attendance with an invitation to Take the Jump, such as, as part of their ticket. Providing workshops and support to people there at the festival to help empower them. Activities we’ve done in the last two years
Immersive and interactive theatre experiences,
Take the Jump tent with multiple interactive installations,
Informative but joyous and participatory talks and workshops,
Fashion booth and catwalk,
'Planetary Tarot' card reader,
Less Stuff More Joy assault course,
Hilarious ‘Consumers Anonymous’ sessions.
A bit more info on two examples of the content we can provide:
‘Consumers Anonymous’ - A tongue in cheek, hilarious, silly but powerful participatory journey that brings people together to play out a meeting of the ‘Consumers Anonymous’ group. Hosted by characters who invite participants to play out their guilty consumerist secrets and exercise their daemons. In a world that labels us consumers rather than people, no wonder we’re all hooked on ‘stuff’. Then when we try to make sustainable changes and we’re not perfect, we feel like hypocrites. But we’re all hypocrites, and that is OK! In a way, it's hilarious. So let's laugh at ourselves, laugh at each other, give ourselves a break. That is where the healing starts. This journey we then go on together explores the people we really are, and the world that is coming into being as a result.
Take the Jump workshop or talk - A joyous, sparking, empowering and cathartic interactive session. This is talking about climate change like you’ve never heard it before. No shaming, no finger pointing, no doom spirals. Just clarity, levity, inclusivity, connection, community and crucially, real impact. Exploring how we ALL have huge power to create a world where we live joyous, full lives, while fully in balance with nature - and how that journey is one rooted in diversity, openness and compassion. This session is not just snazzy vibes, it’s real, based on the latest climate, social and behavioural science. Taking people on a joyous journey through the emotional barriers to change and unlocking the power they have, giving people a chance to talk, exchange, share stories, find compassion for each other, go beyond shame and frustration, and to become windows into the bright future we all know is there waiting for us.
Amplifying a festival's impact across the country and throughout the year!!!
WHAT: Provide a continuity for people at the festival to stay engaged and connected with the spirit of festivals and each other, after they leave and go back to the ‘real’ world. We have a nationwide network of citizens, communities and ambassadors (inc extensive and world leading training) that they can take part in, bringing the magic of the festival moment to inspire and activite communities to take joyous climate action throughout the year. We can measure and demonstrate this impact, showing how festivals can drive real societal change. For instance 50 people signed up for our 6 week ambassador program at Shambala festival.
WHY: Festivals are a unique cultural moment, or pivot point, where people feel they get an inspirational glimpse of a brighter future. Many people at festivals are also already taking personal action, and are open to get involved in driving change in their community. What happens when we leave a festival and have to go back to reality? A way of amplifying the reach of the festival way beyond just the weekend, creating that joyous network throughout the year.
HOW: Giving customers practical ways to keep the festival energy going after they leave. We have an online community space the hub, thousands of active members, dozens of local community groups, joyous online and real world events, support groups and more.
